Sustainability Report 2022

CPC Inox’s first Sustainability Report is now available!

After launching a major three-year decarbonization plan in 2021 in partnership with Enel X, we decided to produce our first sustainability report, a testament to our environmental and social commitment and transparency.

We asked our Aurora Manzaro, Sustainability Manager & HR Specialist, to tell us more about what it is all about.

What is the Sustainability Report?

It is a representation model, used by companies, to provide evidence to stakeholders of their performance in the economic, social and environmental areas.

This document enables organizations to be able to better understand and manage their impacts on people and the planet; it can help identify and reduce risks, seize new opportunities, and take action to become a responsible and accountable organization in a more sustainable world.

How important is it today to adopt sustainable solutions in the steel industry?

Adopting sustainable solutions is a commitment made today by companies operating in virtually all sectors, as this is part of the grand decarbonization plan welcomed and well expressed in the 2030 agenda by the European Union.
In our industry, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important lever that can make a difference, for example, in the choice of new markets for the purchase of raw material. Today we are seeing an increasing focus on CO2 emissions from production processes and logistics.

Why did CPC Inox decide to produce a Sustainability Report?

Since its founding, CPC has juxtaposed business objectives with a real commitment to supporting the local area and society, building a reality that puts people at the center of corporate life.

In 2021, with the official launch of the partnership with Enel X, we took a further step toward sustainability, developing a three-year circular economy and decarbonization project.

This report shows our commitment with concrete data, drawing a current picture of the company and our future goals.

What are the most interesting data that came out from the report?

Definitely those related to energy and waste management and attention to employees.

With the photovoltaic plant in the Gessate plant, we have started the daytime self-production share of our zero-emission electricity needs. In operation since October 2022, this plant has a capacity of 760 Kwp and has produced about 68 MWh of renewable electricity until December 31, 2022.

In addition, in 2022, the share of sorted waste reached 40%/ regarding the packaging of our products; we have changed about 90% of our plastic packaging, either through the use of 100% recyclable plastics or by increasing the recycled material in the composition of packaging.

On the human resources side, we have applied policies to improve employee welfare. One example is the welfare plan amounting to €1,700 per person in services, shopping vouchers and gasoline.

What is CPC Inox doing to be sustainable?

First and foremost, we provide specific training to employees to spread more and more awareness and culture on the issue. Sharing the same values is key to pursuing the important goals set.

To improve our energy efficiency, we have also installed photovoltaic systems in both Basiano and Gessate.

From a social sustainability point of view, we have renewed our collaboration with ForestaMi and Briantea 84.

What are the next steps?

An energy diagnosis is currently underway on the Gessate plant that will allow us to work on energy efficiency. We will also enhance environmental impact activities in the local area through new plantings in collaboration with ForestaMi.

At the same time, we are working to improve working environments: we are designing new offices in Gessate and planning team-building activities that will be able to make all of us experience moments of sharing.
